Find the name, not a fixed corner
Your Life Palace need not occupy the same screen position as someone else’s. Separate the fixed branch positions in the diagram from the palace names assigned by the chart. Read the actual label before interpreting a star shown inside a box.
Likewise, do not mix a natal arrangement with a period-specific overlay. A first pass should identify which layer the display is showing. A colourful marker without its legend is not enough to tell you what it means.
A compact guide to the twelve labels
Translations vary between books and apps. The following pairs are a vocabulary aid, not a list of promised life outcomes. In particular, a Health Palace is not a medical test, and a Wealth Palace is not an investment signal.
| Common English label | Chinese label |
|---|---|
| Life | 命宫 |
| Siblings | 兄弟 |
| Spouse / Relationship | 夫妻 |
| Children | 子女 |
| Wealth | 财帛 |
| Health / Illness | 疾厄 |
| Travel / Migration | 迁移 |
| Friends / Associates | 交友 / 仆役 |
| Career | 官禄 |
| Property / Home | 田宅 |
| Well-being / Fortune | 福德 |
| Parents | 父母 |
Palace, star and transformation are different fields
A palace names an area of the framework. A star is a placed symbolic component. Four-transformations markers add another relationship or status to selected stars within the applicable rules. Do not read these as three interchangeable kinds of label.
A simple teaching note could say: “This palace is labelled Career; these are the stars shown here; this marker belongs to this star.” That is a description of the chart. “Therefore this career will succeed” would be an extra claim, not something established by reading the labels.
Start with a small reading path
Locate the Life Palace and read its displayed contents. Then choose the palace related to the question you brought. Note the connections the explanation actually names instead of scanning the whole chart for the most alarming word.
For example, when reflecting on a difficult work routine, compare the question with the Career label and any other palace the explanation explicitly brings in. Real facts such as working hours or a changed manager remain information you supplied, not facts discovered by a star.
An empty-looking palace is not an empty life area
An area without a displayed major star still has a palace position and a place in the chart’s relationships. Do not conclude that a person has no relationships, no career or no support because a box appears less crowded.
The useful follow-up is which chart relationships an interpretation uses for that palace. Avoid replacing a connected reading with a single “good star / bad star” rule. Different schools may explain these connections differently.
Check the birth inputs before going further
If two charts put a palace or star in different places, compare the calendar, date, time period and stated method before comparing personality descriptions. An attractive interpretation cannot correct an uncertain birth input.
The companion birth-details guide explains what the current Multifate form collects and why you should not borrow the BaZi calculator’s unknown-time option as if it also existed in the Zi Wei entry.
