What are Da Liu Ren class gods?
A Da Liu Ren chart holds twelve heaven-plate branches, twelve generals, four lessons and three transmissions, and each of them can be read. Once you ask about one matter, you first find the sign that stands for it. That sign is the class god, lei shen in Chinese.
Class gods are picked out of the chart you already have; they add no new layer. Tradition has two ways of picking them, usually used together, plus the Post horse for movement. If the chart itself is new to you, start with what is Da Liu Ren.
- Class god
- Also called: lei shen, 类神
- The branch or general that stands for the matter asked about. It shows where the matter sits on the chart and what state it is in.
- Six relations
- Also called: liu qin, 六亲
- Relations to the day stem by element: what controls it is Officer (官鬼), what it controls is Wealth (妻财), what produces it is Parent (父母).
- General as class god
- A general picked for its traditional image, such as the Azure Dragon for money or the White Tiger for illness, read through the heaven branch it rides.
- Post horse
- Also called: yi ma, 驿马
- A branch found from the day branch. It stands for movement and is read for travel and moving house.
Which class god for money, work or marriage?
The complete reading sorts questions into six kinds and takes a set of class gods for each. The first three columns are what the free calculator uses; the last is what other books often add.
| Question | Six relations | Generals and horse | Often added |
|---|---|---|---|
| Money | Wealth | Azure Dragon | Some books add the Great Constant, for food and clothing |
| Work | Officer | Vermilion Bird, Noble One | The Noble One for posts and reviews, the Vermilion Bird for papers and contracts |
| Relationships, marriage | Wealth, Officer | Six Harmonies, Heavenly Empress | Tradition: a man asking reads Wealth, a woman asking reads Officer |
| Illness | Officer | White Tiger | Offspring for medicine and relief |
| Travel, moving | none | Post horse, White Tiger | The White Tiger also stands for roads |
| Study, exams | Parent | Vermilion Bird | Parent stands for documents and schools |
Relationships list both Wealth and Officer because the free calculator does not know whether the person asking is a man or a woman, so it takes both. Travel has no agreed six-relations rule, so the free calculator reads only the horse and the White Tiger. Offspring and Sibling are never class gods in the tool.
A lost item is not one of the six. Tradition reads the Dark Warrior (玄武), the general of loss, theft and hidden dealings, and then the class god of the thing itself: Wealth for lost money. The complete reading folds a lost-item question into the closest of the six kinds and says which one it read.

Try the Da Liu Ren toolHow do you find the six relations from the day stem?
A six-relations class god depends on the element of a branch, measured against the element of the day stem. The day stem is the stem under the first lesson.
Name the day stem element
Jia and Yi are Wood, Bing and Ding Fire, Wu and Ji Earth, Geng and Xin Metal, Ren and Gui Water.
Find Officer
The element that controls the day stem; its branches are Officer.
Find Wealth
The element the day stem controls; its branches are Wealth.
Find Parent
The element that produces the day stem; its branches are Parent.
| Day stem | Officer (controls it) | Wealth (it controls) | Parent (produces it) |
|---|---|---|---|
So one relation usually covers two to four branches. The free calculator works out all of them. When you read, start with the one that sits in the three transmissions.
Where do you find the class god on the chart?
A six-relations class god is a branch: find it on the heaven plate and note which earth palace it sits over and which general it rides. A general works the other way round: find the general first, and the heaven branch it rides is where that class god stands.

The horse comes from the day branch: 寅 on 申, 子 and 辰 days, 申 on 寅, 午 and 戌 days, 亥 on 巳, 酉 and 丑 days, 巳 on 亥, 卯 and 未 days. Some books count it from the year branch; the free calculator uses the day branch. Then check, in this order:
- Is it in the three transmissions? How they are taken is in three transmissions.
- Is it empty, one of the two branches the ten-day group of the day does not reach?
- Which palace does it sit over, and which general does it ride? The images are in twelve heavenly generals.
One chart, six questions: where are the class gods?
The Da Liu Ren guides on this site share one moment: 21 October 2026, 10:30 Tokyo time. The free result gives a 戊辰 day, 巳 hour, month general 辰 and three transmissions 卯, 寅, 丑. The day falls in the 甲子 ten-day group, so 戌 and 亥 are empty.
The day stem 戊 is Earth, so Officer is 寅 and 卯, Wealth 子 and 亥, Parent 巳 and 午.

| Question | Class gods and where they stand | In the transmissions | Empty |
|---|---|---|---|
| Money | Wealth 子 over 丑, 亥 over 子; Azure Dragon rides 午 over 未 | none | 亥 |
| Work | Officer 卯 (first) and 寅 (middle); Vermilion Bird rides 卯; Noble One rides 丑 | all | none |
| Relationships | Wealth 子, 亥; Officer 寅, 卯; Six Harmonies rides 辰 over 巳; Heavenly Empress rides 子 over 丑 | only Officer | 亥 |
| Illness | Officer 寅, 卯; White Tiger rides 申 over 酉 | Officer yes, White Tiger no | none |
| Travel | Post horse 寅 over 卯, riding the Serpent; White Tiger rides 申 | the horse, as the middle transmission | none |
| Study | Parent 巳 over 午, 午 over 未; Vermilion Bird rides 卯 | Vermilion Bird yes (first), Parent no | none |
Read in the traditional way: for work, the class gods run from the first transmission to the last, so the matter is moving. For money, Wealth and the Azure Dragon are outside the transmissions and 亥 is empty, so the money side has not taken shape. For travel, the horse is the middle transmission.
In, empty or absent: how do you read a class god?
Once the class god is found, tradition reads its state. The first three are also the rules the complete reading uses, sourced to the 六壬通论 line that emptiness is hollow and waits for its time.
- In the three transmissions: the matter is already moving and is the main line of this chart. It reads most directly when the class god is the first transmission.
- Empty: the matter is hollow, a name without substance when it falls on Wealth or Officer, and it waits until the empty branch is filled. When that is, see Da Liu Ren timing.
- Outside the transmissions and empty: the matter has not taken shape yet.
- Outside the transmissions but not empty: the matter exists but is not what drives this chart; read the palace it sits over and the general it rides.
- Several branches for one relation: read the one in the transmissions first.
Tradition also weighs a class god's seasonal strength, its relation to the day stem and the asker's birth-year branch. The charts on this site do not compute seasonal strength or the birth year.
Why do books give different class gods?
Ask the same question of two books or two AI chats and you often get two sets of class gods. Usually nobody is wrong; they start from different methods. Some lead with the generals, some with the six relations, some split by whether a man or a woman is asking.
| Question | What books say | The free calculator |
|---|---|---|
| Marriage | The Heavenly Empress and Six Harmonies first; or Wealth or Officer by the asker's sex | Both methods, Wealth and Officer side by side |
| Money | The Azure Dragon first, some add the Great Constant | Wealth and the Azure Dragon |
| Illness | The White Tiger and Officer, some add Offspring for medicine | Officer and the White Tiger |
| Lost item | The Dark Warrior, plus the class god of the thing lost | No separate kind; the closest of the six |
| Post horse | From the day branch or the year branch | From the day branch |
Find the class god on your own chart
Pick one question, cast a chart with the free Da Liu Ren calculator, name the day stem, then use the tables above. The whole method is in the Da Liu Ren guide, and how to read a Da Liu Ren chart goes through a chart layer by layer. The chart is free; AI questions have separate limits.
Da Liu Ren class gods: common questions
Is the class god the same as the first transmission?
No. The first transmission, also called the use (发用), is where the matter starts; the class god is the sign that stands for the matter. When the class god is the first transmission, the chart reads most directly, as it does for a work question on the example chart.
Do men and women read the same class god for marriage?
Tradition has a man read Wealth and a woman read Officer, and both read the Heavenly Empress and the Six Harmonies. The free calculator does not ask for sex when casting, so it takes Wealth and Officer together.
Which class god is read for a lost item?
Tradition reads the Dark Warrior and then the class god of the thing itself. The complete reading has no separate lost-item kind; it reads the closest of the six and says which.
What if the class god is not in the three transmissions?
Then the matter is not what drives this chart. Find it on the heaven plate anyway and note the palace it sits over, the general it rides and whether it is empty.
